Mindfulness is all about being present. Paying attention on purpose to the present moment without judgment. Through formal and informal practices, we can train our brain to avoid rumination and destructive patterns of thought and a far more relaxed way of being. Mindfulness is a powerful tool for anyone struggling with anxiety, depression, and stress. Over time, mindfulness becomes a person’s way of being in the world and many people report significant improvements to their overall wellness as a result of their practice.
Increased body awareness is another benefit of mindfulness. We can take that to the next level with trauma-informed yoga practice as well as dance and other somatic techniques. Integrating rhythm and movement in to the therapeutic process allows body and mind to align, generating increased wellness, awareness, and capacity to self-regulate.
